As an Analyst, you will play a crucial role in sourcing and evaluating startups that align with our investment strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Startup Analysis:
- Market Research and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends, industry dynamics, and potential investment opportunities. Stay updated on market developments, competitive landscapes, and technological advancements relevant to the firm’s investment strategy.
- Financial Analysis: Analyse financial statements, business models, and investment metrics of potential startup investments. Evaluate financial viability, growth potential, and risk factors associated with investment opportunities. Develop financial models to assess key performance indicators and conduct sensitivity analysis.
- Strategy: Assist in conducting comprehensive analysis on potential investments, including analysing business plans, customer acquisition strategies, competitive advantages, and market positioning. Identify risks, opportunities, and potential value drivers to inform investment decisions.
- Investment Memorandum: Collaborate with the investment team to prepare comprehensive investment memoranda (startup proposal form) and presentations for potential investments to the Soulmates Ventures Investment Committee. Assist in articulating the investment thesis, market analysis, financial forecasts, and risk assessments to support investment decision-making. Help manage the deal flow and track potential investments through a well-organised pipeline.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyse, and interpret data related to investment performance, market trends, and portfolio company metrics. Assist in preparation of reports and presentations for stakeholders. Prepare investment summaries and presentations for internal review and discussions.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Soulmates team members, to share insights, contribute to investment discussions, and support the decision-making process. Foster a collaborative and intellectually stimulating work environment.
- Ad-hoc responsibility – Networking: Build and maintain relationships with incubators, accelerators, and other ecosystem players to stay updated on emerging trends and potential investment opportunities. Attend industry events, conferences, and demo days to expand your network and gain insights.
Preferred Qualifications & Skill Sets:
- A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field. Advanced degrees such as an MBA or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in financial analysis and modelling.
- Solid understanding of financial statements, valuation methods, and investment principles.
- Excellent research abilities, with experience in conducting market analysis and due diligence.
- Proficiency in data analysis and presentation tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, CRM and financial modelling software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear and concise reports.
- Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Passion for entrepreneurship, startups, and emerging technologies.
- English language proficiency mandatory, other languages an advantage.
